According to a program aired by NHK around 9 p.m.
on March 15th, 2003, approximately 18 to 20% of Japanese households (450,000) rely on lead pipes for their tap water, and that lead in our water is beginning to have serious effects on our health.
TheWHO1 (World Health Organization) allows up to 0.01ppm of lead in drinking water, but in some cases in Japan 0.05 ppm of lead was detected, raising serious concerns about stomach and brain illness.
Lead pipes are cheap and relatively easy to produce, they began to be used after the end of the war. Since these lead pipes were not used for main or branching pipes, but for pipes inside homes, the waterworks department does not have data on where they were installed, and are therefore unable to replace them.
In addition to the standard filter that comes with the LeveLuk, we also offer filters that remove lead and chlorine from the water. These filters contain soluble ions, calcium and activated charcoal. It can filter up to 1,500 gallons of water, which means it should last for about 6 months for a family with four or five people. Please do not forget to replace the filter when the time comes. |
